Man, 27, docked over alleged theft of building materials

The police on Friday, arraigned a 27-year-old man, Kayode Egbeyemi, before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing building materials worth N250,000.

The defendant whose occupation and address were not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing.

The Police prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large, committed felony on July 15 around 11.30 p.m., at an uncompleted building on Okitipupa-Ode Aye Road in Okitipupa magisterial district.

Omoyeigha, said that the defendant and one other at large, stole iron rods, aluminium, electrical conduit pipes and water pipes worth N250,000, property of one Omoyele Ikumapayi.

The Prosecutor said that the defendant committed the offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 516 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.

He added that the surety who must be resident within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 17, for further hearing.
