Makinde: We chose APM Primary to avoid PDP crisis
Makinde declares 2027 presidential bid at PDP-APM rally in Ibadan

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde says his faction opted for a unity deal with the Allied Peoples Movement to avoid the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking Thursday at the APM governorship primary in Ibadan, Makinde said the arrangement was a strategic move to protect his team. Abimbola Adekanmbi emerged as the APM candidate for the 2027 election at the event held at Watershed Event Centre, Old Ife Road.

Makinde said the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission at the primary showed the process was credible. He argued that INEC would likely have boycotted the exercise if it had been conducted under the PDP due to its internal disputes.

He described the unity deal as a sign that his group is ahead of the situation and wiser than those still entangled in the PDP crisis, using a Yoruba proverb about the squirrel to make the point.

Makinde congratulated the party’s flagbearers, members and supporters on the success of the primary.
