A London court has sentenced a Nigerian man to life in prison for stabbing a man to death after an argument in his Vauxhall flat.

Fawaz Abdulkareem, 36, was convicted of murder and possession of a bladed article at Croydon Crown Court on June 5. He must serve at least 17 years before he can apply for parole.

–How the killing unfolded–

Metropolitan Police said the attack happened in the early hours of July 5, 2025, at a residential building on Bondway, Vauxhall.

Daniel Manuel, 32, had spent the evening with friends and Abdulkareem before they returned to the defendant’s flat.

Prosecutors told the court an argument broke out there.

Manuel was fatally stabbed and stumbled into the lobby of the apartment block with serious injuries.

Officers, paramedics and medical staff tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives arrested Abdulkareem at the scene and charged him the next day.

During their investigation, police recovered the knife believed to be the murder weapon after it was thrown from an upper floor of the building.

A jury later found him guilty on both counts.

–“Our thoughts remain with Daniel’s family”–

Detective Inspector Luke Hampton, who led the case, said the conviction followed “extensive police work” and thanked everyone involved in securing justice.

“Our thoughts remain with Daniel’s family, and we hope this sentence provides them with some measure of comfort,” Hampton said.

In a statement read after sentencing, Manuel’s wife Zulal described her husband as the “central part of my life” and spoke of the deep impact his death had on their family.

The Metropolitan Police said the case is part of ongoing efforts to tackle serious violent crime and knife offences across London.

From a night out with friends to a fatal argument in a flat — a dispute ended one life and cost another 17 years minimum behind bars.
