A legal practitioner, Azubuike Ihemeje, has dragged a former presidential aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged criminal case of misrepresentation, taking and receiving salaries in excess and obtaining by false pretence.

In the petition, dated September 16, 2022, Ihemeje alleged that Omokri was recieving salaries as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) when he was employed as Special Assistant.

The legal practitioner requested the Commission to urgently and forensically investigate Reno’s appointment status and salary designation during his assignment as the Special Assistant to the President.

Ihemeje said that the suspect by his admission, was obtaining and receiving salaries as SSA whereas his only disclosed letter of appointment bears Special Assistant, thereby showing clear case of obtaining excess salary by pretence.

Reno had on 15th September voluntarily published his letter of appointment and payment slip as proof of a duly appointed worker in the federal government of Nigeria between 2012 and 2015.

This is believed to have influenced the petition by Ihemeje.

The petition partly reads: “That unless the suspect furnishes proof of his subsequent elevation to the status of Senior Special Assistant, we strongly believe that there exists some clear prima facie proof of a criminal case of misrepresentation, taking and receiving salaries in excess and above employment status and obtaining money by falsehood against the suspect.”
