The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, has apologised to the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, over the assault on him at the party’s campaign rally for the Ondo State governorship election in Ondo town on Wednesday.

The apology was tendered in a statement issued on Thursday by Engr Adedeji Doherty, the Chairman Peoples Democratic Party Lagos State Chapter.

Recall that some sponsored hoodlums had assaulted the former governor and removed his cap while making his way to the podium at the campaign ground.

Engr Adedeji Doherty said he was compelled to apologize to Governor Fayose on behalf of the PDP in Lagos State because of security reports received, which revealed that those who carried out the attack, were from the State.

He urged all stakeholders of the party in the Southwest to embrace peace and allow for dialogue to resolve all grievances rather than resulting to physical and verbal attacks.

He assured that the party’s National Working Committee and the Governors’ Forum would look into the remote and immediate causes of the attack, which he described as shameful.

He however advised that all and sundry should not be distracted by this sponsored attack by some unscrupulous persons but should rather concentrate on the task at hand, “which is winning the forthcoming elections and ensuring that Eyitayo Jegede is the next Governor of Ondo State.”
