The Social Democratic Party (SDP) said Tuesday it was prepared to produce the next governor of Ekiti State.
The party said towards this end it had accepted the canditure of Chief Segun Oni, and resolved to field him as its candidate in the next governorship election in the state.
According to the party in a statement signed by Dr Dele Ekunola, state Chairman of SDP, the state working committee in a meeting Tuesday resolved to make certain clarifications known to the public that “we are prepared ever than before to produce the next Governor of Ekiti State.
The statement said the candidature of Chief Oni enjoys wide acceptability.
The party said that the Ekiti State chapter of SDP in conjunction with the National Working Committee have agreed to welcome the former Governor of Ekiti State, Oni, as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
“We also agree to welcome more people into our fold as we embark on aggressive membership drive towards our winning the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State
“In furtherance to this, the state working committee thanks the people of Ekiti state for the show of love and enthusiasm towards our gubernatorial candidate, Chief Segun Oni whom we are set to receive to our party with funfare in the next few days.
“We encourage Ekiti electorate from all shades of their political affiliation to continue to spread the gospel and vote for our candidate and the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.”
