The Memorial Anniversary Celebration of the late Prince Abubakar Audu has been condemned by the Voice of Reason group, which described the event as a “self-serving” attempt by desperate politicians to curry favour with the Igala people ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group criticised the state government for playing a pivotal role in organising the anniversary, questioning the timing and motives behind the event.

“Why is the state government so keen on celebrating Prince Audu’s legacy now, when they have done nothing to sustain or improve on his vision for a better Kogi state?” the group asked.

The Voice of Reason group also lambasted Igala elites who have allegedly made themselves willing tools for politicians, to the detriment of their people and development.

“The level of hypocrisy and desperation exhibited by this government is highly condemnable and outrageously demeaning,” the group stated.

According to the group, the anniversary celebration is a ploy to shore up support for Governor Usman Ododo’s administration, which has performed abysmally.

The group, however, expressed confidence that the people of Kogi state have risen up to salvage their state and are ready to get it right by doing the right thing.

The group warned that the latest wave of awareness and consciousness among Kogi people about the need for power shift in 2027 would not be ignored, and that those who attend the anniversary celebration would be held accountable during the elections.

“We’ll punish them with our votes,” the group vowed.

The Voice of Reason group paid tribute to the late Prince Abubakar Audu, describing him as a well-respected gentleman and seasoned politician with a vision for a better Kogi state.

However, the group condemned those who claim to be Audu’s friends but are using his legacy for exploitative purposes.
