A civil group, Voice of Reason Group, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, led by Governor Usman Ododo, over alleged plans to impose a local government council structure for 2027.
The group said that the move was a ploy to ensure Ododo’s re-election, given the current administration’s poor performance in all spheres.
The Voice of Reason Group noted that the current local government council was barely a year in office, and their mandate extended to October 2026, making it unnecessary to begin now to plot for elections that would hold next year.
The group believed that the Ododo administration was threatened by the growing popularity of a shift in the power structure arrangement in the state.
The group alleged that power mongers in the state were desperately trying to put in place a machinery for Ododo’s re-election, despite his administration’s abysmal performance.
They cautioned that any attempt to manipulate the system could heighten cases of insecurity and political unrest in the state.
The Voice of Reason Group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the governor and the APC in Kogi State to order, warning that their actions could slur the good work and development the president was making frantic efforts to achieve.
The group reiterated its firm stand for power shift, regardless of the desperation and manipulation the Kogi State APC was attempting to emplace.
The situation in Kogi State remains tense, with the Voice of Reason Group vowing to resist any attempt to impose a local government council structure that is not in the best interest of the people.
The group’s call for President Tinubu’s intervention may put pressure on the governor and the APC to reconsider their plans.
