A former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The former Director General of Tinubu’s Support Group AbdulMumin Jibrin disclosed this in a terse statement on his official Twitter page.
He said, “BREAKING- Sen Ibrahim Shekarau joins NNPP. Details later.”
THE CONCLAVE reports that the forging of a common front by the duo of Kwankwaso and Shekarau in NNPP is going to significantly alter the political terrain in Kano and put the APC under tremendous pressure.
There are strong feelers that the new political force may upend both the APC and the PDP and determine the direction the people of the State will go in 2023.
Both Shekarau and Kwankwaso control large followings in Kano. Coming together strengthens their common front and places them in a good stead to take over Kano and return it to its traditional oppositional politics.
Kano has remained the hotbed of opposition politics in the northern region of the country until in times when the ruling parties-PDP and APC- ensured they controlled the state at some intersections.
