Just in: Doyin Okupe resigns as DG of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council

Dr. Doyin Okupe has resigned from his position as the Director-General of the Labour Party presidential campaign council.

He tendered his letter of resignation on Tuesday.

The letter was addressed to Mr Peter Obi, LP presidential candidate, and dated December 20, 2022.

Okupe’s resignation came on the heels of his conviction for money laundering charges by an Abuja High Court.

He paid an option of fine in the amount of N13 million in lieu of going to jail.

The amount reportedly laundered was N240m which he was said to have received from the Office if National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), during the 2015 presidential election.

He got the money in cash to prosecute assignments given to him during the 2015 presidential poll.

He charged with money laundering for receiving the money in cash instead of through the financial institution.
