The Benue State Governor-elect, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The development, according to media reports, triggered excitement in Makurdi the state capital as supporters stormed the streets to express happiness over the validation of Alia’s victory.
The Roman Catholic priest who was “suspended” by the church prior to the general elections won the March 18 gubernatorial poll in the state.
Alia of the All Progressives Congress, APC had polled 473,933 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who scored 223,913 votes.
