Chaos erupted at Durbar Hotel in Badawa, Kano, after a 25-year-old woman allegedly took bloody revenge on her boyfriend for planning to dump her.

The Kano State Police Command on Monday confirmed the arrest of Maimunatu Idris of Maigatari LGA, Jigawa State, for allegedly attacking her lover with a sharp knife and severing his manhood.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, trouble started when the suspect discovered her boyfriend’s plan to marry another woman.

In what police described as a premeditated act, Maimunatu reportedly lured the man to the hotel under the guise of spending time together.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene. The suspect was arrested and the weapon recovered as exhibit,” Kiyawa stated.

He said the victim was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital where he is receiving emergency medical care.

A witness, a security personnel working near the hotel in a report by Daily Trust, gave a chilling account of what transpired.

“She asked him to lodge at the hotel so they could stay together. It was there she used the opportunity to cut his manhood,” the source said.

The suspect was immediately apprehended by hotel staff members and handed over to police operatives who arrived at the scene.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the attack in strong terms and warned members of the public against jungle justice and taking the law into their own hands.

“The Command will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the suspect is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Kiyawa added on behalf of the CP.

Police said investigation is ongoing.

The incident has since sparked outrage and heated debate across Kano and beyond about rising cases of violent breakups and relationship-related attacks.
