The Court of Appeal in Lagos, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, affirmed the election of Honourable Ibori-Suenu Erhiatake of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State.
Erhiatake won her election appeal against three male politicians that included, an incumbent, Ben Rolands Igbakpa of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Mr Halims Ahoda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Ogboru Michael Etabunor of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Delivering judgement, the trio of Hon. Justice Festus Ogbuinaya, Senchi, and Waziri, the appellate Court held that Erhiatake was the winner of the February 25, 2023 National Assembly into the Ethiope Federal Constituency election.
Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu is the daughter of a former governor of Delta State and National Leader of the PDP in the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.
In a statement on Tuesday, Hon Erhiatake described the ruling of the Court of Appeal as victory to God and her constituents.
She particularly lauded the decision of the Court of Appeal, saying democracy has come to stay.
