The Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa in Osun State, Oba (Dr) Michael Odunayo Ajayi Arowotawaya 11, has joined other monarchs in the country who have been clamouring for the return of power to the traditional institution as one of the viable ways to curb the menace of insecurity in the country.

The traditional ruler made this known while fielding questions from journalists, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The Elerinmo said it was imperative for the government to give traditional institution the needed power as they were people closest to the grassroots.

The monarch said: “We know our people well, both the good, the bad and the ugly, but that we need some delegated powers, empowerment and authority from the government to handle them and bring them to justice.”

Oba Arowotawaya further said, until traditional rulers, were assigned roles in the constitution concerning the security of their communities, security in the local communities would continue to be elusive.

The traditional ruler maintained that traditional rulers were the chief security officers of their communities just as governors were the chief security officers of their states, insisting that they should be allowed to strictly function as such.

The Elerinmo who commended the government for doing the little they can to ensure adequate security in the land said, involvement of traditional ruler in the government activities as a way of tackling insecurity cannot be over emphasised.

The traditional ruler however called on the residents of the state to always join hands with government and security agencies towards security of life and property.

Elerinmo added that, “Erinmo-Ijesa community is known for peace with law abiding people who always demonstrates their unalloyed support to government.”
