The Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, convened a meeting on August 8, 2023, with key police leaders of the Nigeria Police Force.
This gathering included members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Heads of various Tactical and Operational Units.
The meeting took place at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall within the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the primary purpose of this assembly was to thoroughly evaluate the existing policing strategies.

The intention was to identify areas that require improvement and effectively address these critical aspects.
During the meeting, IGP Egbetokun highlighted significant accomplishments achieved within a short span of one and a half months.
These accomplishments were the result of a series of both covert and overt operations aimed at dismantling criminal gangs that had been causing turmoil across various communities in the country. Notable achievements included the apprehension of 986 armed robbery suspects, 390 kidnapping suspects (including bandits), 848 individuals suspected of homicide, 297 suspects in possession of prohibited firearms, 517 individuals linked to cases of rape, defilement, and other sexual offenses, 874 suspected cult members, and 5,328 individuals implicated in various other offenses.
Furthermore, these operations led to the recovery of 639 firearms of different calibers, including AK47s and other assault rifles, along with 4,441 assorted ammunition.
The police were able to recover 266 stolen vehicles nationwide, and a total of 363 kidnap victims were safely rescued and reunited with their families and loved ones.
IGP Egbetokun commended the police force’s Commands for their professional handling of recent protests by citizens and organized labor.
The peaceful conduct of both the citizens and labor leaders during the protests, which resulted in no casualties, was acknowledged.
He announced that this management strategy would serve as a model for controlling protests across the country in the future.
Emphasizing the dedication of police officers to protecting citizens and their property, IGP Egbetokun warned against unprovoked harassment, attacks, and killings of police officers. He stated that such actions would be met with appropriate and lawful force, considering it an assault on the state itself.
State Commissioners of Police were tasked with ensuring continuous security surveillance at government warehouses and key storage facilities to prevent incidents similar to the one that occurred in Adamawa State.
The IGP assured the Federal Government of the Force’s commitment to offering necessary support to address the country’s economic challenges.
In light of recent events within the ECOWAS Sub-Region, IGP Egbetokun urged the Strategic Police Managers to uphold stability along the borderlines.
Additionally, the IGP encouraged the public to report any suspicious individuals, groups, or activities within their communities to the police.
He assured the confidentiality of the reporting process and stressed the importance of sharing actionable intelligence to prevent crimes.
His message to the public was summarized as, “If you observe something, make sure to communicate it.”
