The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked the rumours circulating in some media outlets, specifically https://www.dockaysworld.com.ng/, that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a curfew starting at 4 p.m. in anticipation of planned nationwide protests.
The NPF has categorically dismissed thes reports as false and mischievous.
In an official statement, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, clarified that the Inspector General of Police had not declared any curfew.
He emphasized that such a significant decision, if taken, would be communicated through the official platforms of the Nigeria Police Force.
Adejobi criticized the unauthorized dissemination of this incorrect information, asserting that it was a creation of the authors’ imagination and does not reflect the reality of the situation.
“The public is hereby urged to disregard this misinformation and rely solely on official communications from the Nigeria Police Force or other recognized government agencies,” ACP Adejobi stated.
He stressed the importance of accurate reporting, especially on matters of public safety and order, and warned against the spread of unfounded rumors.
The NPF reassured citizens that the Police Force remains committed to maintaining peace and order and will continue to provide updates through appropriate channels.
The force also called on media organizations to verify information before publication, reminding them of their critical role in ensuring accurate and responsible journalism.
The NPF’s statement aims to calm any unwarranted public anxiety and prevent the spread of falsehoods that could lead to confusion or panic.
As the country anticipates potential protests, the NPF reiterated its commitment to upholding the rights of citizens while ensuring public safety and security. The police encouraged all stakeholders, including the media and the public, to act responsibly and cooperatively during this period.
