Popular media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown has shared the story of how she unexpectedly became a television host, admitting that she never planned to be in front of the camera.

Speaking at the Refire Conference, Morayo talked about her early struggles, career setbacks, and how she eventually rose in broadcasting. She revealed that her original plan was to work behind the scenes rather than host a show.

She explained that she doubted her ability to speak fluently and even struggled with stammering. “The idea at the time was to hire someone else to anchor the show,” she said. She brought in Joy Isi Bewaji, who was focused on writing and later became well-known for her work.

However, just before the show was set to air, the appointed host stepped aside to focus on writing. This left the production team in a tough spot. With little time to prepare, Morayo was asked to host the programme herself despite her fears. She said this was how her journey as a TV host began, and over time, the show became popular.

Years later, she faced another challenge when Television Continental (TVC) removed her from her position. “I was frustrated and had to fight for my job. Five days later, they rehired me, but this time I was demoted,” she said. Despite the setback, she continued working on her show and remained committed to her craft.

In 2019, Morayo resigned from her role at TVC but stayed on as a contract staff, still handling her programme. By 2023, she earned a leadership role as Managing Director, which she initially thought would be her breakthrough. But she admitted the role did not give her the fulfillment she expected.

Her turning point came when she developed a new TV show concept and pitched it to a partner who funded it with 100 million naira through her company. “I had to ask myself if I could do this for myself, and I knew it was time to leave. I decided to take the bull by the horn and start again,” she said. This decision led to the creation of her own show, The Morayo Show.

She added: “Till today, every day is a new day, and we keep asking how to make it better. God has already deposited something in you and brings things together to push it out.”
