The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olatunji Disu, has called for new partnership that would reflect the realities of modern policing.

Disu made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the close of a week-long event to mark the 42nd anniversary of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

The I-G, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Logistics and Supply, Mr Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, said the future of national security depended on deeper collaboration, smarter engagement and stronger community participation.

According to him, as we celebrate this legacy, we must also look forward to the future of policing and indeed national security, which depends on deeper collaboration, smarter engagement and stronger community participation

“This version of police is committed to a policing model that is proactive, intelligence-driven, technology-enabled and community-rooted

“But no strategy, reform or innovation can succeed without the trust and involvement of the people.”

Disu also said that the future required renewed commitment to community engagement, stronger involvement, enhanced public trust and continuous dialogue between the police and the people.

According to him, the PCRC must continue to evolve, embracing new ideas, technologies and partnerships that reflect the realities of modern policing

He said that the PCRC 42nd anniversary being celebrated, was not only a moment of pride, but a call to action to strengthen the bonds that had sustained the partnership for 42 years.

The police boss also said that it was a call to deepen the collective resolve to build a safer Nigeria, and ensure that the legacy of service becomes the foundation for a future defined by peace, security and shared prosperity.

The I-G added that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to advance the ideals of community-orientated policing and build a nation where every citizen felt safe, valued and protected.

“As we commemorate this 42nd anniversary, let us celebrate the past, embrace the present and commit to the future where the PCRC remains a cornerstone of national security and community trust.

“I congratulate the leadership and members of the PCRC nationwide, and may this anniversary inspire renewed energy, deeper collaboration and greater achievements in the years ahead,” he said.

In his remark, the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan said the 42nd anniversary was a milestone marking years of resilience, unity, and shared commitment to the core values of the committee.

He said the committee, founded 42 years ago by the Late Mr Etim Inyang, a retired I-G began as a small unit, with a vision to create a harmonious, cordial working relationship and understanding between the police and the community.

“Looking back, I am filled with pride for the journey so far. We have weathered storms, celebrated significant wins, and grown from a small group into a formidable, respected body.

“This journey would have been impossible without the relentless efforts of our founding fathers, and veterans who built a solid foundation, as well as the current members who continue to keep the flag flying,” he said.

Olaniyan added that the PCRC under his leadership had reactivated dormant zonal offices as well as states, area and divisional commands.

He said that the National Secretariat Land was reclaimed under his watch in spite of all monetary advances.

The PCRC boss added that his administration spare headed the award of contract for the PCRC national secretariat through Developers approved by the Ministry of Police Affairs and Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, the project will provide a befitting office for PCRC, provide accommodation at subsidised rate to its members and improve revenue generation from proposed apartments.
