In the wake of Hurricane Melissa’s devastating impact on the Caribbean, the League of African Ambassadors has extended a heartfelt hand of solidarity to the affected nations.
Led by President Ambassador Nwanne Ominyi, the League expressed profound sorrow and unwavering support to the peoples and governments of Jamaica and other Caribbean countries.
The destruction caused by the hurricane has struck a chord of empathy within the African community.
The League recognised that the pain of the Caribbean was the pain of Africa, and their loss was a collective loss.
This sentiment is rooted in the deep historical, cultural, and ancestral bonds that unite Africa and the Caribbean.
In response to this regional tragedy, the League has launched the “Hand of Friendship and Advocacy” initiative.
This diplomatic effort aims to amplify the call for help, build resilient bridges for the future, and provide support to affected countries.
The League is rallying the international community to rapidly deploy emergency teams and scale up assistance; mobilise specialised knowledge and expertise in disaster response; and, establish a long-term partnership for climate resilience
The League’s statement concluded: “To the governments and peoples of the Caribbean, we say to you that you are not alone. Africa stands with you! Our solidarity is expressed through our unwavering diplomatic voice, our moral authority, and our commitment to ensure your call for help is heard and acted upon across the world.”
This powerful gesture has reaffirmed the unbreakable bonds between Africa and the Caribbean, demonstrating strength in unity to confront the most daunting challenges.
