The people of Edo State have deployed social media in monitoring and evaluating the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of some road projects in Edo State by the Federal Government.

With the use of WhatsApp and Facebook, among others, the construction of the nine kilometres Igo-Obazuwa-Ikoro road in Ward 10 of Ovia North East Local Government Area of the State, which inclusion in the Federal Government budget was facilitated by the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has gone viral.

The progress of work on the road was audio-visually recorded by a concerned citizen and circulated to various WhatsApp platforms with huge and influential memberships within and outside the State.

The concerned citizen, who was taken on a motorbike, was seen recording the road that has already been graded, preparatory to further work by the contractors.

Apart from the Igo-Obazuwa-Ikoro road, one of the WhatsApp group members made a post in which he drew attention to the commencement of asphalting work on Iviukhua road in Etsako East Local Government Area of the State on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

The member, who commended Prince Agba for facilitating these projects to Edo State, wrote: “No living Ivikhua soul ever thought this will happen in their life and times.  Today (January 19, 2021) is undoubtedly a day that children unborn will remember….”

Another member simply wrote: “Prince Agba has done what Napoleon could not do.”

He confirmed that Prince Agba was instrumental to the approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of the road construction projects in Iviukhua and other Egori communities, pointing out that contractors had since mobilized to site since October 7, 2020.

According to him: “This project started only last October and today we are witnessing commencement of asphalting activities on the road with strategically fitted drains.

“If we do not call this Prince a ‘Miracle worker’, what else could best fit this feat? The rest is now history! History is happening  before our own eyes.

“Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, you may see this merely as one of the many (road) projects you facilitated to Afenmai land last year alone; but it is a lot more than that….

Another post by a member, who described himself as Jolly, read: “My village (now) wears a new look, courtesy of the Honourable Minister of State for (Finance) and Budget (and National Planning), Prince Saint Clem Agba.  Today, history is made in my village as the first asphalt is laid. I will be driving home on tarred road for Easter celebration.  To God be the glory….”

Yet another member circulated images of progress of work on road rehabilitation project from Okpekpe axis to Uzanu, and dropped some words of prayers for the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, adding; “God bless you Hon. Minister for keeping to your promises.  We are proud of you.”

In a piece written by Mr Akpejiori Apolllianaris Igenegba Junior, titled: A True Saint, Old Boys Association Honour Clem Agba”, which was also circulated in the social media said that “since his appointment less than two years ago, he (Agba) has facilitated the construction of roads in different parts of Afenmai land and Edo State at large.

“Among these projects are the ongoing road prjects in Iviukhua, Iviebua, Iviegbopui, Okpekpe, Agenebode and other Egori Communities in addition to the Federal Executive Council approved Uneme-Uzanu-Okpekpe link road.”

A member said: “…Prince Clem Agba deserves encouragement.  All we owe him is continuous prayers for God to keep on using  him to do the good works which he is doing  in Etsako East, Etsako Central (Agenebode-Osomegbe road), Akoko Edo (Ojiramhi-Erhurnun road, Enwan-Egbigere road ), Benin(Igo-Obazuwa-Ikoro road) and a host of others that will be coming in later.”

Interestingly, some other members have taken the opportunity of the platforms to draw attention of the minister to roads in their areas that need to be rehabilitated.
