A heavy rainstorm swept through Erinmo-ijesa town, in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, leaving in its wake massive destruction of multi million naira property.
The rain, according to reports, lasted one hour.
The houses destroyed included the residences of the traditional ruler of the ancient town, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa, Oba Dr Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II.
The fence of his ultra modern palace guest house, which is under construction, was affected.
The rain also affected the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Erinmo District Headquarters, Erinmo, shops and other business premises.
Speaking on the incident, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa who was not happy about the development, appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, to urgently provide assistance for those affected by the rainstorm.
Oba Arowotawaya appealed to those affected by the incident in any way to remain calm and await a response from the state government and other relevant agencies.
Reacting on behalf of other residents of the town, Evangelist Segun Otubanjo, said many people had been rendered homeless as a result of the storm.
He urged the Osun State government to come to the aid of the victims of the rainstorm.
