Gunmen have killed a young man, Ikechukwu Idenyi, at the popular Okwor-Ngbo Market in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident was confirmed by the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
Ukandu disclosed that Idenyi was shot dead by gunmen at midnight on Monday, June 10.
He added that the command had deployed its operatives to the area for an investigation.
Ukandu further urged the people of Ebonyi State to support the police efforts toward achieving sustainable security in the state.
Also speaking on the incident, the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Odono, said the victim died after multiple gunshots were fired at him by the gunmen.
Odono said: “He was shot severally while trying to lock his shop at the market.
“I visited the scene of the incident, alongside the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chinedu Onah, some policemen, and other stakeholders in the area.
“The incident is unfortunate.”
The chairman disclosed that no property was taken away by the assailants, adding: “Normalcy has returned to the area.”
