During his briefing, the Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Lewis Lepdung, provided an overview of the operation’s successes and the challenges faced by troops in the field.

He highlighted recent gains in countering armed groups, bandits, and other criminal elements that have destabilized the region.

However, he also pointed out key operational constraints, including logistical difficulties, equipment needs, and the welfare of personnel.

Acknowledging these concerns, the COAS assured the troops of his unwavering support.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to equipping personnel with modern combat enablers, intelligence support, and strategic reinforcements necessary to enhance their effectiveness.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders in achieving sustainable peace.

In addition to operational directives, Lieutenant General Oluyede reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of military personnel and their families.

He stated that improving soldiers’ living conditions was a key aspect of his leadership agenda, recognizing that well-motivated troops perform better in the field.

As part of this commitment, the COAS inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering and the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi.

The projects, which include accommodation units and other essential facilities, are aimed at addressing the acute shortage of housing and improving the overall living standards of the barracks community.

He assured the troops that his leadership would continue to push for more investment in military welfare, training, and equipment procurement to ensure they are well-prepared to execute their duties effectively.

Operation WHIRL STROKE, launched to counter banditry, communal clashes, and insurgent activities in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, and Plateau states, has been instrumental in neutralizing threats and restoring a semblance of normalcy to affected communities.

The COAS emphasized that troops must maintain momentum and not allow criminal elements to regroup.

He called on the troops to remain disciplined, professional, and committed to their mandate, reminding them that their role was crucial in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and internal stability.

The visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the safety of life and property in conflict-prone regions.
