In what appeared to be coordinated attacks on security facilities and personnel in the southeast in recent times by a faceless group, another police station was on Tuesday razed.
This happened after the Vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo wrapped up his visit to the state in the aftermath of the Monday arson on the State Police Command and Citrectional facility in Owerri.
Several vehicles were burnt while many suspects and inmates were set free from the two offices.
Gunmen on Tuesday, April 6 burnt down the Ehime Mbano local government area divisional police headquarters in Imo state.
According to reports via sundry media platforms, the attack came hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and retired Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, (who received the announcement of his retirement while in Imo) and other government functionaries visited the state.
On arrival, the gunmen reportedly freed all the suspects in detention before setting the facility ablaze without any resistance by policemen.
For instance, Daily Trust reported that the assailants broke into the station, shot sporadically before they torched the facility.
A resident said the armed men operated unchallenged for more than 45 minutes during the attack.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered relevant agencies of the federal government to end what he called anarchy in Imo state.
A presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said the president condemned the attack that took place recently in the state.
Buhari also ordered security and intelligence agencies in the state and the geo-political zone to fully mobilise and go after the terrorists, apprehend them and get them punished under the full weight of the law.
