A near tragedy was averted on Thursday as a Police escort accidentally shot the Sister of Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Atsi Kefas, during an attack by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Information released by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication specializing in the Lake Chad region, stated that the incident occurred on Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to the publication, a police officer assigned to escort the family “accidentally shot Atsi” while trying hard to repel the attackers.

After successfully warding off the suspected bandits, troops of the Nigerian Army swiftly intervened to rescue the victims and evacuate Jumai and Atsi Kefas from the scene using an air ambulance.

Family sources disclosed that Atsi Kefas was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

However, one of the family insiders said Atsi’s current condition remains undisclosed, adding that she was responding to treatment at the time of filing this report.

The insider also hinted that security operatives reportedly recovered the vehicle used by the attackers with an empty magazine and passenger luggage found inside. [Forefront]
