A socio-economic and political organization- Network of Grassroots Development (NGD)- has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint the next Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission from Edo State.
The group’s co-administrator, Ukato Thomas, stated this in reaction to a statement credited to Niger Delta Rescue Movement (NDRM), warning that the continuous violation of the NDDC Act by administering the Commission without a validly appointed governing board in accordance with the Act, was a recipe for failure of the APC in the next general election in the South South geopolitical zone.
NGD welcomed NDRM’s concerns for the enthronement of the rule of law in the administration of the NDDC, but condemned their submission that Edo and Ondo States were ineligible for the position of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The group added that the NDDC Act contemplated an administrative structure that would give all the nine member states Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and River equal opportunity at the management level.
