Gross misconduct: IGP summons erring policemen from Edo command for running over man with their vehicle

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the troubling incident wherein policemem ran over a man with their vehicle.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023, in Ekpoma, Edo State.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP ordered the immediate transfer of the erring policemen, who had been detained in Edo State, to report directly to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

This transfer was to facilitate further investigation and appropriate disciplinary measures.

The Ag. Inspector-General of Police stressed that the present leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) unequivocally denounced such acts of unprofessionalism and illegality.

He assured the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, that this incident would be thoroughly addressed and that justice would be served.

The Ag. Inspector-General of Police implored citizens to remain calm, emphasizing that the NPF under its current leadership would not tolerate or condone any misconduct or abuse of power.

By swiftly condemning the incident and taking immediate action, the Ag. Inspector-General of Police and the Force Headquarters demonstrated their commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law within the Nigeria Police Force.

This incident, the spokesperson said, served as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to reform and improve the conduct of law enforcement officers, ensuring that they operated within the bounds of the law while protecting and serving the public.
