A review by SaharaReporters of public payments portal- Govspend- has shown that the federal ministry of Niger Delta affairs and office of the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Niger Delta Affairs violated fiscal laws by paying money into private bank accounts.

Chapter Seven, Section 713 of Nigeria’s Financial Regulations 2009 states that “Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private account.”
It also added that: “Any officer who pays public money into a private account is deemed to have done so with fraudulent intention.”
Review shows that a total sum of at least N903 million was paid into personal accounts in the 2023 fiscal year.
On 14th December 2023, the sum of N53.9 million was paid into the account of Sylvester Tambo for stipends arrears to camp leaders in Yahweh.
Another sum of N19.8 million was paid into the account of Abraham Ibitari.
Chief Bibopiri Ojube also got N13 million from the office of the special adviser to the President on Niger Delta.
The office also paid the sum of N32.5 million into the account of Ebikabowei Victor Ben.
Felix Bonny got N24.505 million, Dasimaka Sami also got N182.1 million. Another sum of N78.9 million was also paid into his account on 14th December 2023.
On 14th December 2023, the sum of N32.8 million was paid to Harry Tonye by the office of the special adviser to the President on Niger Delta.
On the 14th of December 2023, a sum of N32.5 million was paid to Odiki Jacob while Reuben Wilson got N26 million from the office of special adviser to President on Niger Delta.
Joseph Evah got the sum of N21.9 million from the office of the special adviser to the President on Niger Delta.
The federal ministry of Niger Delta paid the sum of N5 million to Adeola Azeez Mohammed. Howarth Dafione got the sum of N165.1 million while Basiru Olumuyiwa received N216.8 million.
There have been concerns on accountability and corruption in the country.
Nigeria ranked 145 out of 180 countries in the most recent corruption perception index released by the Transparency international.
