Ghana has formally petitioned the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court over the River Park Estate dispute in Abuja, Nigeria.
The dispute involves allegations of misconduct, document falsification, and breach of agreement by Nigerian authorities against Ghanaian businessman Sir Sam Jonah’s companies, Jonah Capital and Houses for Africa Nigeria Limited.
The River Park Estate dispute began over ownership and control of the estate, with Jonah Capital claiming the Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) unlawfully expropriated their shares and removed their directors.
The Ghanaian government initially exercised restraint to protect its bilateral relationship with Nigeria but has now escalated the matter to ECOWAS after failed attempts at resolution.
Jonah Capital claims ownership of River Park Estate, backed by extensive documentation dating back to 2012, including share certificates and FedEx records.

The CAC allegedly falsely claimed that Jonah Capital failed to attend scheduled meetings, despite video evidence showing the company’s lawyers and a representative of the Attorney General in attendance.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, confirmed that the dispute has assumed a regional dimension, with Accra formally involving ECOWAS.
The ECOWAS Court will likely request comprehensive documentation from Ghana, which has already begun submitting the necessary paperwork.
The Ghanaian government hopes for an amicable resolution while preparing for adjudication.
