A 300-level student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in Ondo State, Olona Oluwapelumi, has committed suicide.
Reports said that Oluwapelumi, who was in the Department of Industrial Design at the university, committed suicide at his residence in the Aule Area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday.
The reasons for the incident had yet to be ascertained as of the time of publication of this report.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said the remains of the student had been taken to the morgue.
“An investigation has started to unravel the reasons behind his action, but it was a case of suicide,” Odunlami added.
The incident was also confirmed by the FUTA Students’ Union Government in a statement issued by its President, Jesunifemi Asoore.
“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Olona Oluwapelumi, popularly known as ‘Tart Angle’, who died on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
“According to reports, his death was confirmed in the early hour of Saturday,” Asoore stated.
