FUO matriculates 4,958 students for 2025/2026 session

The Federal University Otuoke [FUO] has matriculated 4,958 students with a call on them to exhibit the spirit of discipline, dedication, focus and hard work that would enable them to achieve their academic dreams.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Teddy Charles Adias, made the call at the 14th matriculation ceremony at the East Campus, disclosed that over 17,000 candidates applied for admission through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), 5,934 were offered provisional admission, but only 4,958 met all requirements and were formally admitted.

Describing the matriculation as a mandatory rite of passage into university life, Professor Adias urged the new students to embrace academic rigour, shun distractions, and pass their examinations creditably.

“University education will expose you to various temptations, but I charge you to remain focused, be diligent, live peacefully with one another and with our host community, Otuoke, and make your families and this university proud,” he said.

He emphasised that the university is a universal community without boundaries and encouraged the matriculants to become worthy ambassadors of their families, communities, and the institution.

The Registrar, Mrs. Andabi Amangi-Edomo, the first female to occupy the position in FUO, administered the matriculation oath to the students after the Vice-Chancellor formally constituted the gathering as a matriculation assembly. Deans of the respective faculties subsequently pronounced the candidates as bona fide students of the university.

The University Orator, Dr. Charles German Ikimi, cautioned students against swimming in the Otuoke River, attending night parties, and holding any matriculation celebration beyond 4:00 p.m. within the campus premises. He also advised them to spend money wisely.

The Chief Security Officer, Barr. Biobaragha Makalabah, rendered a brief musical admonition, urging the fresh students to lay a solid foundation for leadership by first learning to be good followers.

Some of the matriculating students who spoke to journalists expressed excitement at gaining admission into the university.

“My admission into Mechatronics Engineering is a dream come true. I promise to study hard and make the best use of this opportunity,” Bright Igbera said.

Similarly, Maureen Peregha (Political Science) and Agamene Taribowei (Chemical Engineering) pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them through academic excellence.
