Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to financial discipline and prudent management of public funds, describing accountability as a core pillar of his leadership.
The governor disclosed that before the period of emergency rule in the state, over ₦300 billion had been set aside in government coffers, adding that upon his return, he met a balance of approximately ₦600 billion.
Fubara assured residents that within six months, his administration would present clear and verifiable evidence showing how public funds are being utilised to drive development across the state.
He made the disclosure while inaugurating the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road, a major infrastructure project linking previously underserved communities in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.
The governor dismissed claims and misconceptions about the management of state finances, attributing them partly to his preference for quietly executing projects rather than organising elaborate public flag-off ceremonies.
He noted that several impactful projects were ongoing across the state, beyond those currently being inaugurated.
According to Fubara, the administration’s record on transparency and financial management remained strong and could not be faulted by any fair-minded observer, stressing that all available resources were being deployed strictly in the interest of Rivers people.
He explained that the Obodhi–Ozochi Road project was initially initiated under his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to mobilise political support during the 2023 general elections through a former lawmaker and his then Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
The governor said Ehie successfully delivered on the assignment, making it necessary for the current administration to not only complete the project but also expand its scope.
Consequently, the road was extended by an additional 4.2 kilometres, bringing its total length to 14.2 kilometres.
Fubara also approved the construction of internal roads within the community in response to residents’ requests.
He further charged Edison Ehie to channel the massive turnout recorded at the commissioning ceremony into sustained political support for President Bola Tinubu, noting that such backing would significantly support the President’s re-election efforts.
