Five forest guards slain, arms looted as terrorists raid Kwara

Suspected terrorists have killed five forest guards and carted away several weapons during a pre-dawn attack on security personnel in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Security sources said the attack occurred at about 3.20am on Friday, when troops of Operation Savannah Shield, deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Kaiama, received intelligence of an assault on Nigeria Police personnel at Nuku.

The assailants killed the five forest guards and looted five AK-47 rifles and 10 magazines belonging to them.

They also seized one AK-47 rifle and a magazine from a police officer.

“In addition, the terrorists burnt two motorcycles, one Explosive Ordnance Disposal Hilux vehicle, and other personal items belonging to the police personnel,” a source said.

The corpses of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaiama.

Security agencies are currently tracking the perpetrators.

Attempts to obtain official confirmation from police authorities were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
