Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said the Rivers State Government’s new residential quarters for commissioners and special advisers will be ready by November 2026, ending what he called an “embarrassing” reliance on costly rented accommodation.

Fubara disclosed the timeline on Thursday during an inspection of the project site in the Rainbow Housing Estate, Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt.

“It looks so embarrassing that the government will be spending a lot of money renting places for these senior officials,” the governor said. “So we decided to embark on this project, believing that when it is completed, and accommodation provided for our very productive officers, efficiency will be an issue of top priority.”

The centralised quarters, handled by Shaanxi Construction Engineering Nigeria Limited, comprises 25 units of six-bedroom flats. It is intended to house commissioners and special advisers.

Fubara said the move will cut costs and simplify security arrangements for top officials.

“When they are all living together, I think it makes it easy for us to have just one unit of security and this multiple arrangement of carrying police here and there will also stop,” he said.

The governor, accompanied by Commissioner for Special Projects Tonye Belgam and company officials, braved rain and muddy terrain to tour the site.

He commended the contractors for their progress and commitment to the November 2026 delivery date.

The project forms part of the administration’s plan to reduce recurrent expenditure and improve operational efficiency within the state executive.
