FRSC trains driving school operators in innovative techniques

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is training driving school operators in evolving vehicle technology and modern road trends to enthrone decent road culture.

Mr Shehu Muhammad, the FRSC Corps Marshal, stated this at the annual mandatory training for proprietors and instructors of driving schools in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Represented by the Assistant Corps Marshal, Felix Theman, Muhammed said that the Driving School Standardization Programmme (DSSP) was very important.

He said that the training would provide knowledge towards inculcating positive behaviours that would reduce road crashes.

“The corps is poised to ensuring optimal adaptation to evolving vehicle technology and modern road trends,” he said.

Muhammad further said that the national worship would provide a more comprehensive regulatory framework for driving schools operators.

The FRSC boss said that the two-day workshop with the theme: “Professional Driver Education: Using Innovative Training Models to Improve Road Safety and Reduce Fatalities in Nigeria” drew participants from Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia and Akwa-Ibom.

He said that the workshop highlighted the agency’s determination to modernising driver training with a view of enhancing behavioural change.

“Since the introduction of the DSSP, the corps has recorded measurable progress in strengthening the regulatory framework for driving schools, and improving the curriculum of driver training programmes.

“The training has also promoted professionalism among driving instructors, enhanced credibility of driver licensing process, and strengthened collaboration with state governments and other stakeholders,” he said.

He charged trainees to take advantage of the lectures and demonstrative sessions to positively improve training curriculum, and positively impact drivers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants at the workshop commended FRSC for the training, and promised to adequately embrace innovative driving technologies and road systems.

One of them, Mr Samuel Oye said that the yearly training had provided a platform for FRSC to communicate new driver education models.
