Former Military Governor of Rivers State, Brigadier-General Anthony Ukpo has died, aged 74.
Ukpo, according to a family source, died in his Asi Ukpo Calabar Hospital, in the early hours of Monday.
Born 16 July 1947, the late General was Minister of Information and Culture, and then Governor of Rivers State, from August 1986 until July 1988, during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Ukpo was born in Okpoma, Yala, in Northern Cross River State.
On joining the army, he rose through the ranks to become a Brigadier-General, before his retirement.
Ukpo was a staunch Catholic.
He died in a private hospital in Calabar due to an undisclosed ailment. (AIT)
