The immediate-past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Maikanti Baru died at 60 on Friday night,
Mele Kyari, the current GMD of the corporation disclosed this on his tweeter handle. “My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” Kyari said.
Baru, who served as GMD of the NNPC from July 2016 to July 2019, when he retired from service, died after a undisclosed ailment in an Abuja hospital.
Baru was appointed NNPC GMD by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016, a position he held up until 2019.
