First Bank of Nigeria, FBN, has dismissed allegations of fraud levelled against it in a lawsuit filed by a customer, Dr. Agbai Eke, calling the claims “entirely unfounded and false.”
In a statement signed by Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, the bank clarified that its internal findings showed that the issue stemmed from “unprofessional and unethical dealings” between Dr. Eke and a former FirstBank employee.
The bank stated that these transactions were facilitated through a personal relationship and occurred without its knowledge or involvement.
“As the matter is currently [sic] before the Court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to dispassionately determine the issues before it,” the statement read.
FirstBank also confirmed that it had reported the case to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation, with the suspects already making useful statements to authorities.
Reaffirming its commitment to ethical banking practices, FirstBank assured its stakeholders of its dedication to transparency, accountability, and the protection of customers’ interests.
