Nigerians will get a mid-week break next week.
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026 a public holiday to mark Eid ul Mawlid — the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was made Friday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo used the announcement to call for reflection, not just celebration.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.
“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them.”

The minister urged Nigerians to use the day to pray for peace and national cohesion, saying unity remains “a collective responsibility.”
He also appealed for restraint and mutual respect during the celebrations, while wishing the Muslim community a “joyous and peaceful Eid.”
Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across the country.
