The Federal Government began the mass trial of another batch of suspected terrorists in Abuja Monday, moving proceedings from Kainji, Niger State, to the Federal High Court.
Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, is leading prosecution, while Legal Aid Council DG Aliyu Abubakar heads the defence team.
–One-week trial across all courtrooms–
The trial will run for one week in all FHC courtrooms in Abuja. Presiding judges include Justices Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu, and Ekerete Akpan.

Justice Nwite took 58 suspects Monday.
Those listed include Abba Bukar, Abba Manye, Gujja Mala Bukar, Brem Gonimi, Isa Mohammed, Lawali Dashiri Danke, Yau Tukur aka Mai-Auduga, and Bello Liman aka Alhaji Bell Doctor.
Other cases scheduled for Monday were adjourned to accommodate the mass trial.
–Security beefed up–
Security was tight around the Central Business District and FHC Abuja.
Armed personnel blocked all roads leading to the court.
–Why Abuja, not Kainji–
Fagbemi said logistics drove the relocation.
“Whether cases are tried in Kainji or Maiduguri, Federal High Court judges handle them. It’s more convenient here; we have more courtrooms and facilities. We have 10 judges at a time, you know what it means. It means a lot,” he told reporters.
–Phase 9 ongoing–
NAN reports 500 suspects were tried in Phase 9 of the exercise between 7 and 10 April 2026 in the same court in Abuja.
