The FCT police command’s operatives, on April 4, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, successfully arrested Chukwuemeka Oputa, known as “Pounds and Dollar,” aged 38, from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State.
Oputa, identified as the leader of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for a spate of armed robberies and other serious crimes within the FCT, was apprehended following intensive investigative efforts.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, Oputa’s arrest followed the capture of Moses Hassan, a cultist and member of the aforementioned armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024.
Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of three additional gang members: Praise Etta (30 years old, from Etung, Cross River State), Rafael Dav, also known as “Raffy” (28 years old, from Guma, Benue State), and Thomas Akange (38 years old, from Markudi, Benue State).
All suspects have confessed to their involvement in numerous armed robberies and other criminal activities within the FCT, further revealing their affiliation with the Vikings confraternity cult group.
Significant exhibits were seized during the operation, including four locally manufactured AK47 rifles, three homemade rifles utilizing cartridges, an English pistol, a locally crafted pistol, a Dane gun, as well as three AK47 ammunitions, a 5.56mm assault ammunition, and an empty cartridge.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, underscored his unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents within the FCT.
He urged vigilance among residents and encouraged them to promptly report any suspicious activities through the Police emergency lines:
