The Minister of State, for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, said that the Federal Government was fully ready to support any innovative technology that would proffer solutions to health challenges.
Barr. Abdullahi made this known when he received the management of Next Wear Technology Hub in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.
Next Wear Technologies, is a technology start-up that developed a Smart Bra device for early detection of breast cancer.
Barr. Abdullahi commended the tech start-up for being the pioneers of wearable technology in Nigeria, adding that this innovative technology would boost the Federal government’s effort at improving the health sector.
He further said that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to improve indigenous technology, adding also that the innovation’s intellectual property would be appropriately protected by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).
According to the minister, “The Ministry will work closely with the Presidential Standing Committee on invention and Innovation (PSCII), to evaluate the innovation and see how it can be recommended for presidential grant.”
Barr. Abdullahi said the innovation would encourage women to participate more in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Earlier, the Project manager for the SMART BRA DEVICE, Bolarinwa Kemisola said she was seeking the Ministry’s support for the project, in terms of finance and technological support.
She added that the device was conducive and safe for human use and help detect the challenges facing women in the country.
