Fayemi hands over to Oyebanji as Ekiti gov today

There is excitement in the air amid heavy security presence in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state as Governor-elect Biodun Oyebanji takes oath of office today.

The tenure of his predecessor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, lapsed 12 midnight, paving the way for the new helmsman to take over the reins of power.

Oyebanji, will be sworn in alongside his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye.

A member of the transition committee said that the programme would begin at 11.00am today.

Fayemi will hand over power to Oyebanji who was his Secretary to the State Government and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

He emerged victorious in the June 18 governorship poll.

Scores of security operatives, comprising the men of the Police, Army, Department of State Security and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were sighted manning strategic positions around the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, venue of the event.

The roads leading to the venue of the event and other adjoining streets within the precinct of the Ekiti patapo pavilion were under heavy security while Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and vans were stationed in front of the venue.
