Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, in what he described as a discussion focused on the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria.

Malami shared details of the visit via social media, calling el-Rufai “a patriotic mind committed to national development.”

“It was a distinct honour to visit my brother and friend, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai. Our conversation focused on the unity, peace, and progress of our dear country. It is always a delight engaging with someone so committed to national development,” Malami wrote.

The visit comes amid growing speculation that Malami may be considering a decampment from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Reports said Malami recently led a group of disgruntled politicians—primarily from the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) bloc within the APC—in voicing concerns over the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While no official statement has been made regarding a possible decampment, Malami’s recent political moves have fueled discussions about realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
