The traditional ruler of Ewatto community in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, HRH Onojie Zaiki Osagie Ikhumhen I, has called for the sustenance of tradition and custom of the people, saying they are what bind every society.
He made the call while marking this year’s “Ukpe-Ebakor” festival in the community.
HRH Ikhumhe I said Ukpe-Ebakor, which means a celebration of the harvests for the year, is an annual festival observed in Ewatto.
Ikhumhe I, while thanking the people of the community for upholding the age-long tradition and custom of the land, said they were meant to usher in peace, progress, and abundant blessings upon the land.
The traditional ruler enjoined the people of the community not to allow the custom and tradition to die but should do everything in their power to sustain them because they were the way of life of the people.
The traditional ruler also commended parents for the way and manner they had been able to team up to give their children education.
He noted that such was possible because both parents had been able to put their resources together for such purpose.
Hon. Joe Ikpea thanked the traditional ruler for keeping the tradition and custom of the land, noting that some communities had lost their traditions due to modernisation.
He also commended the people of the community for supporting the traditional institution in preserving the custom and tradition of the land.
