In a significant advancement for regional security, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has garnered backing from the European Union through COGINTA, a non-governmental organization dedicated to peace and security.
This support entails the provision of twenty nautical platforms, a development celebrated on the 18th of August, 2023, during a ceremony held in N’Djamena, Chad.
In an official statement, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Military Public Information Officer in N’Djamena, conveyed that Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the MNJTF Force Commander, expressed gratitude upon receiving the nautical platforms.
This gesture symbolizes the ongoing global commitment to combat insurgency and promote enduring peace within the region.
Major General Ali characterized this support as a unified aspiration for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Lake Chad Basin area.
He acknowledged the additional assistance from COGINTA and the EU in enhancing the capacity of potential platform operators by refining navigation skills and maintenance capabilities.
Thierry Marotte, representing the EU Ambassador to Chad, highlighted the EU’s prioritization of peace, security, and development as the driving force behind their endorsement of the MNJTF.
He emphasized that the EU has been consistently providing diverse support to the mission, aiming to ensure a harmonious and thriving Lake Chad Basin Region.
