The Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, in collaboration with EU Member States in Nigeria and the Fashion Academy Abuja, is extending an invitation to young Nigerian designers for their inaugural fashion competition titled “Afro-Euro Runway.”
This competition aligns with the theme of this year’s Europe Day Celebration, which focuses on the ‘European Year of Skills’.
Its primary goal is to foster diversity, equality, and inclusion, values that are essential to both Africa and Europe.
This competition presents an exceptional platform for designers to showcase their collections, raise awareness of their brands, and establish connections with industry professionals, the European Union, and its Member States.
It also offers an opportunity to engage with fashion enthusiasts.
Designers are encouraged to create collections that draw inspiration from the theme, allowing for diverse interpretations, including specific eras, cultures, or styles.
Participation in the competition will be based on selection criteria such as professionalism, uniqueness, quality of collections, and the collections’ relevance to the theme.
The fashion show will feature models who represent different beauty standards, ages, disabilities, genders, and body types. Interested applicants must be Nigerian citizens residing in the country and fall within the age range of 18 to 40 years.
Judges will evaluate the designs based on elements such as design, aesthetics, creativity, originality, inclusivity, and the ability to interpret the Afro-Euro theme, as well as previous works.
Ultimately, eight finalists will be chosen to participate in the Fashion Runway Show and Awards Ceremony, scheduled to take place in Abuja on June 16, 2023. Non-Abuja residents selected as finalists will have their expenses covered.
The European Union will provide logistical support, including backstage facilities, exhibition space for shortlisted participants to showcase and sell their collections, as well as professional photography and videography services.
Prospective participants are required to apply online through the dedicated call website: https://afroeurorunway.org/ before the deadline of May 30th.
