The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members and staff to imbibe the values of sacrifice, gratitude, peace and compassion as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
The DG gave the charge in a message to corps members and staff to mark the end of Ramadan, noting that the virtues associated with the season aligned with the core ideals of the scheme.
The message was conveyed in a statement signed by Mrs Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations on Friday in Abuja.
Nafiu encouraged corps members to reflect the spirit of the celebration in their daily conduct and service to the nation.
According to him, adherence to these values will strengthen the commitment of corps members to national unity, selfless service and mutual respect.
The NYSC DG also urged members of the scheme to remain focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, irrespective of ethnic, religious or cultural differences.
He said that the collective efforts of corps members and staff were crucial to building a more cohesive, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
The DG expressed optimism that the Eid-el-Fitr season would bring renewed strength, joy and fulfilment to corps members in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to national unity and service to our fatherland,” he said.
He reiterated the scheme’s guiding principle, saying, “Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve.”
