Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, on Friday enjoined Muslim faithful to sustain the momentum of supplication, devotion and prayers practiced during the Holy month of Ramadan for peace, unity and prosperity of the country.
Yahaya made the call in a Sallah message signed by Ismaila Misili, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe.
The governor, who described Eid-el-Fitr celebration as a period of sober reflection, enjoined Muslim faithful to replicate in their daily lives, the lessons learnt during the holy month.
“As we celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festival, I wish to admonish us to learn from the good lessons of Ramadan which connotes piety, obedience and selflessness.
“We must all imbibe the tenets of Islam which promote peace, tolerance, modesty and love,” he said.
He urged the citizens not to lose sight in the face of current socio-economic challenges in the country, but to remain resolute and prayerful as as this trying moment would be over, and Nigeria will emerge stronger and more united.
The governor, who described peace as catalyst for socio-economic development, tasked community and religious leaders to preach, unity and tolerance for sustainable development of the state.
While reiterating his commitment towards delivering dividends of democracy to the people, Yahaya warned that his administration would not condone acts capable of disrupting the relative peace in the state.
“At this critical time that power will soon change hands in our country, it is my appeal that we all indulge in prayers for the incoming leaders in various positions.
“We pray for God to grant them wisdom and guide them in discharging their leadership responsibilities,” the governor said.
Yahaya also thanked community and religious leaders as well as the people of the state for their support to his administration.
“I urge us all to rededicate ourselves and contribute positively to the progress and development of the state.
“I wish to assure you that our administration is committed to ensuring speedy development of the state in its entire ramification.” he said. (NAN)
