The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has called on the Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)to invest in human capital development and to drive well and fast to ensure the health of Nigerians.

According to Olujimi Oyetomi, Director of Information, Media and Public Relations at NHIS, the Minister stated this on Friday during a working visit to the Wuse II, Abuja Office and the Headquarters of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He also relayed the often-quoted maxim of President Muhammad Buhari, that “if you want to get somewhere, run along, to get far, run very fast along.”

He urged the NHIS management and staff to run and run very fast to attain their set goals.

He admitted that “everything has a price and that someone has to pay for good health for Nigerians to enjoy.”

Ehanire said he was impressed by the Health Sector Reform presentation by NHIS and said he believed that the reform would leapfrog the reform of the health sector, build confidence and  trust of Nigerians in the health sector; the goal he said was universal health coverage and affordable health for all Nigerians.

He also urged NHIS not to forget to collaborate and work along with other healthcare agencies like the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The Minister of Health also took the opportunity of the visit to NHIS to sensitize about the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Scheme (NEMSAS).

Under NEMSAS scheme, he said not having money to pay was no obstacle to receiving healthcare.
